Coming this Final 6 weeks!

Ms. Sanders Shakespeare Festival!
Students will understand, make inferences and draw conclusions about the structure and elements of drama (Specifically Shakespearean plays) and provide evidence from text to support their understanding. Students are expected to explain how dramatic conventions (e.g., monologues, soliloquies, dramatic irony) enhance dramatic text.

Students are expected to analyze how archetypes and motifs in drama affect the plot of plays.

REMINDERS:
◦Please turn in book club packets asap!
Book Clubs need to work on PowerPoint presentation and video scene from book or book trailer due May 4th
Shakespearean Take-Home Webquest/Quiz due by May 4th
Reading log due April 30th and May 1st

Please join us on May 16 at 4 p.m. at Vine Fellowship Church for our FIRST ANNUAL Powder Puff Girls Football game. If your child (9th-12th grade) is interested in playing on one of the teams, please see Becky Blackard or call 817-791-9008. There will be food and games and lots of fun!! Proceeds benefit the Senior Class Trip to Scotland and England.

April to May in ELA

Greetings NIAA Parents!
With ELA STAAR behind 9th and 10th grade, we are moving closer and closer to the final six weeks.
From now until April 24th students will work in collaborative groups or “book clubs”. Students will read, discuss and keep a log of activity for this assignment.

Some of the books students have chosen include:
Divergent
American Sniper 
The Scarlet Letter
Lord of the Flies
Flipped
Just to name a few!
        

Finals week is April 13-15 and there is will be early release on April 17th
FINAL ESSAY: Students will be responsible for completing their own individual final essay by April 17th for the novel their group is reading.

5th Six Weeks: Time to let our STAARS Shine!

Awesome NIAA Parents!
I hope  was a time of family, fun and relaxing!
We are only two weeks away from STAAR Testing for English I and II

STAAR English I Monday, March 30
STAAR English II Wednesday April 1

A few tips:
Make sure students
ü Arrive on time
ü Have a good protein filled breakfast
ü Wear a long sleeved white shirt under their regular uniform shirt (No jackets allowed)
ü Mobile phones will be taken up for the testing period or they can be left with you

ü Make sure students have a bottle of water which they may keep with them during testing

HOMEWORK:
Students have reading logs due this six weeks. Dates are posted on CLASSJUMP Calendar as well as the template they are to use.

Once we’re back from Spring Break, STAAR testing is only 2 weeks away! To facilitate our students’ success, we will be offering Saturday Schools in March, April, and May. All students are welcome, and for those who really need to be in attendance, we will be sending letters to parents so that you can schedule your child to be here for the extra help. Please take advantage of this focused review time to enhance your student’s achievement:
