Twas the Week before Christmas Break…

And all through the school,

Student were preparing last minute projects

And rehearsing for a Christmas program that was going to be so cool.

10^th graders were huddle together with care

To produce the best video remake of the Wicker Husband to compare!

7^th and 8^th graders where pointing and clicking away

To create a fantastic collage from stories they had read that day.

Til' the end of the week when ALL projects are due (Dec. 19th)

Week 3: Reading, Reading and More Reading!

Greeting Newman Parents!

This week in ELAR:

10^th Graders are reading fairy tales and short stories which tackle the subject of body image and social acceptance of people who may appear to look different than the social norms. These readings give us the chance to really dialog about treat others with kindness and not judging a book by its cover.

10 Pre-AP class is working on a visual presentation of the short story “Metropolis” about love in a far away place.

8^th grade will read and discuss excerpts from “Diary of Anne Frank”  and “the Red Badge of Courage” and other stories that cover the theme of courage.

7^th Grade is all about fantasy-fiction, reading about a young girl’s courage and bravery in the short story “Morg” (short for Morgan), “Young King Arthur” and “Sir Gawain”.

The countdown starts until Christmas break! We will continue focusing on grammar and revise and editing during our STAAR Starters. Weekly homework packets will continue until break as well.

Book Fair this week!

Hello NIAA Parents

ALL week long Newman is hosting a Scholastic Book Fair Fundraiser! 

I had the opportunity to take all of my ELA classes down for a visit and of course they found at least one book they wanted to purchase!

So please support literacy and our school buy purchasing a book for your student! They will be allowed to purchase books of their choice during my class :-)

The 3rd Six Weeks is here!

Greetings Newman Parents!

Since we only have a few days left before Thanksgiving Break all classes are continuing to focus on the writing process and working diligently on revise and editing.

After the break we will focus on one last fiction story and then begin looking at non-fiction work such as informative articles and memoires. Students were also given a reading log. The objective of the reading log is to get students reading non-fiction, informative articles via news and information websites. 

Students are also encouraged to use the newspaper and news magazines such as Time, US News and World Report and National Geographic. More ideas for informational reading material are welcome parents so please send them our way.
